Long Way Down
Long Way Down follows Will who seeks revenge for his brother Shawn. The entirety of the novel takes place in less than a day, and the majority of the novel happens in the span of one elevator ride.
Shawn was shot. Will thinks he knows who the murderer is. And the rule in this neighborhood is…you need to kill the murderer. So Will takes Shawn’s old gun, steps in an elevator and waits. But on the way down to get revenge, people start coming into the elevator: all ghosts of friends and relatives who have been murdered. They all talk to Will about his decision to get revenge on Shawn. The novel opens up a beautiful discussion on revenge and right vs. wrong.
I really liked this book! It was short and sweet, and the use of ghosts to convey a message is always a cool trope. Even though not much happens in the book, one can still take away meaning from the story. It’s a very short read, so I recommend it to everyone!
